LOU JOHNS
B Ed Hons Art & Education
ARTIST SCULPTOR
Plaster, cast metals, stone, clay
Lou seeks to express the paradox of strength yet frailty
of the human form in its surroundings.
These slender human forms stand tall with
a Giacometti, Masai, Lehmbruck quality. Each
figure attentive to its fellows and its surroundings – ethereal,
organic, complimenting the natural environment around it. Whether
standing alone as in the SENTINEL, as a pair in DYAD (Proximity, Duo)
or in the TRIFORM (Conversation, Dialogue, Conferring), the forms react
and integrate with empathy.
Sometimes you feel that they have grown with or into
their surroundings rather than having been placed there. They are
at home, symbiotic with the horizontals of the
earth or floor and verticals of the trees or walls.
